Lindy Hop began as an Afro-American dance rooted in the 1930s Harlem, New York scene. It developed from the 1920s Charleston and was revived in the 1980s. Lindy fever is still spreading all over the globe.
The swing era (a.k.a. the big band era) began in the late 1930s. Bands and artists such as Duke Ellington, Jimmie Lunceford, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, and Artie Shaw were highly popular. Their music is still being played today and gives Lindy Hop its characteristic feel and rhythm.
Bend Lindy Exchange workshops will all be held at The Space. The studio is located inside the Twin Knolls Retail Center and can be found across from Timbers East next to the Express Eco Laundromat.
